Products made from climbing ropes: From the wall back into everyday life
Climbing ropes have experienced a lot. They have been out on the rock, carrying, securing, perhaps even catching a fall. At some point, they reach a stage where they can no longer be used in climbing. But that's exactly where a new story begins for us.
At HAE, we give these ropes a second life.
New products are created by hand from them in our office in Visp. Not mass-produced goods, but handcrafted piece by piece. Every rope is different, every color tells its own story.

From used rope to new product
Before a climbing rope becomes a keychain or a belt, a lot of work goes into it.
- First, the ropes are thoroughly washed. Dirt, dust, and residues disappear, leaving behind what matters: the material itself.
- Then comes an important step: decoring. The core pieces are removed from the rope. What remains is the sheath, which we then process further.
- In the next step, we cut the ropes to the appropriate length. Depending on the product, this creates the individual parts for keychains or belts.
- Then we sew. By hand, in our office. This requires time, precision, and a good eye for detail. Because every piece should not only last but also look good.
- Finally, the ends are welded. This creates a clean finish and the material remains permanently stable.
More than just recycling
For us, it's not just about reusing material. It's about upcycling. Something that is no longer needed is transformed into something new with value. A keychain made from climbing rope is not just an accessory. It is a piece of history. A product with character. The belts also carry this idea forward. Robust, functional, and unique at the same time.
Did you know? Our popular climbing pants are also available again in all sizes!
Handmade in Visp
All these products are made locally by us. No outsourcing, no anonymous production. We sit together in the office, work with the ropes, and see directly what is created. This takes time. But that's exactly what makes the difference. When you hold a product made from climbing rope, you are not just holding a piece of material. You are also holding the work behind it.
